This course has two aims. First, to ensure that the students are familiar with the range of available empirical researchs and studies on Turkey, and secondly to examine critically and in detail some selected examples.

Learning Outcomes

The expected outcome of the course is to ensure that the students comprehend the major social, cultural and political transformations in Turkey since the early Republican period around the themes like nation and state formation, modernization and urbanization with reference to changing patterns of kinship, family, marriage and education both in the rural and urban contexts.
